Family and Divorce
When relationships are formed, legal obligations and rights can be as well. Whether you are moving in together, buying a property with your partner or getting married, all have legal consequences. When relationships break down, we appreciate the need for sensitivity and empathy with practical and helpful advice.
What we do
At the beginning of a relationship, living together, buying a house or getting married all have legal consequences and the best time to agree what you want to happen with assets and liabilities you have, or are acquiring, is now.
When a relationship comes to an end, we bring a wealth of experience to support you through what is an emotionally turbulent time and assist you in reaching a resolution when it may be hard to see a way forward.
We will guide you on effective ways of resolving the many issues that arise with the aim of reaching an amicable and effective resolution. If court action is necessary, we will advise you, explaining the process and representing your interests to obtain the orders you need.

When a relationship breaks down, untangling property and finances can seem daunting. This is why our priority is to provide you with a full and comprehensive explanation of the legal position relevant to your particular circumstances to allow you to understand the process and see the road ahead to reaching agreement on an overall settlement.
We offer a fixed and capped fee of £350 + Vat for a call or meeting, which usually lasts around 1 hour, to discuss and advice you. As it can be a lot to take in, we confirm our advice and guidance by email, which is useful to refer to as you proceed. We will explain the legal position, what matrimonial property comprises, how it is valued and fairly shared, the procedure regarding reaching a settlement in a Minute of Agreement as well as the divorce or dissolution process and costs. We will also discuss and guide you on issues concerning children. This first discussion should make things clearer and allowing you to move forward to a settlement.

Children are the priority and their interests are paramount when their parents are separating. You know this, we know this and the law recognises this.
